How to get your Timeline JSON from an Android phone

Use the phone that holds your travel history. Begin in your phone’s Settings app.

  1. Navigate to Location → Location services → Timeline.
  2. Choose Export Timeline data, then press Continue.
  3. Pick a folder you can find again, such as Downloads, and save the export. Wait until the phone confirms that the export is complete.
  4. Return to this website and tap Choose JSON files. Find the saved .json file and select it.

Using a computer? Copy the JSON file from your phone with a USB cable or Quick Share, then choose that file on this website.

Menu names may vary by phone. If you cannot find Timeline, try searching your phone’s Settings for “Timeline”. In Google Maps, check profile picture → Your Timeline to confirm the history is available on that phone and you are using the intended account.

The map can only show the history included in your export. Your JSON stays on your device while this site processes it.

Turn Google Maps Timeline into a travel map

Load your Google Timeline JSON to see recorded locations and travel-path points on a world map with state/province boundaries and city labels. Questions about your location history

Which Google Timeline files can I use?

This tool reads newer Timeline.json exports, older Records.json files, and monthly semantic location-history JSON files. Choose multiple monthly files together to combine them. Extract JSON files from ZIP archives before selecting them.

Are my Timeline files uploaded or stored?

No. Your location history is processed in your browser on your device. This site does not send your files to a server or save them between visits. Reloading the page clears the current map.

Can I map only one trip or year?

Yes. Use the two date handles or enter exact start and end dates. The map shows only records inside that window, including both full days in UTC. You can animate the selected window and export its visualization as PNG or JPEG.

Why are parts of my travel missing?

The map shows only coordinates present in your export. Gaps in recorded history, missing coordinates, and GPS errors affect the result. Points without usable timestamps appear in Show all but are excluded from date-window views. Routes are not inferred between disconnected points.

Does this work on a phone?

Yes. Open this site in a modern mobile browser and select your exported JSON file. Very large histories can exceed a phone’s memory; use a computer if the file cannot be loaded.
